Kaushika rescues St. Anthony’s in drawn game

Kaushika Kumarasinghe came to the rescue of St Anthony’s College by cracking a valuable century to help them force a draw against traditional rivals Trinity College in their 106th Battle of the Blues big match concluded at Katugastota yesterday.

Kaushika’s knock of 136 runs included 10 each of fours and sixes as he shared two valuable partnerships, a stand of 82 runs for the sixth wicket with Dinuk Wijesinghe and 92 runs for the ninth wicket with Kevan Fernando which helped St. Anthony’s perform a great recovery. Resuming from their overnight score of 22-1, the Antonians were in a perilous position of 52-5 before Kaushika came in as the savious and help them post 250-9 before declaring against Trinity’s first innings total of 314-6 declared. Trinity, batting the second time, ended the day at 99-5 after facing 19 overs when play ended.
