View(s):Kegalu Vidyalaya gained a valuable 89-run first innings lead against St. Mary’s College at stumps on Day Two of the 43rd Battle of the Gold, their annual three-day Big Match played at the Kegalle Public Ground yesterday.
After bowling out St. Mary’s College for just 136 runs in 60.5 overs, Kegalu Vidyalaya batted steadily to reach 225 for 8 in 72.5 overs by close of play. Skipper Dilshan Dissanayake led from the front with a composed 65, while wicketkeeper Gaurawa Thejan added a crucial 56. Chanuka Wanasinghe also made a solid 43 to keep the scoreboard ticking. Earlier, St. Mary’s innings was held together by Dilum Sri Malinga, who top-scored with 43, and Ashan Udawatta, who made 31. But they struggled against sharp bowling from Vihanga Sathsara (3 for 23), Dasun Sathsara (2 for 22), and Migara Gamlath (2 for 29).
With a day left, Kegalu Vidyalaya are in a strong position as they aim to push for victory in this historic encounter.
