Kandy all decked for the exposition of the tooth relic
View(s):All arrangements have been made for the special exposition of the Sacred Tooth Relic of the Lord Buddha to be held from April 18 to 27.
The exposition will open to the public on April 18 from 3 p.m. to 5.30 p.m. and thereafter from April 19 to 27, daily from 12.00 p.m. to 5.30 p.m.
This is the first special exposition in 16 years. The last was in March 2009 when more than a million devotees paid respects to the Tooth Relic. More than two million devotees are expected to visit Kandy for this year’s exposition. All arrangements for meals and other facilities have been put in place under the guidance of the Maha Nayaka Theras of the Asgiriya and Malwatte Chapters.

The Mahanayaka of the Asgiriya Chapter the Most Venerable Warakagoda Sri Gnanarathana Thero in a statement issued requested the public to conduct themselves in a respectful and orderly manner and be thoughtful of needs of fellow devotees.
The Kandy Municipal Council has put in place special arrangements for the convenience of the devotees such as drinking water facilities. There will also be mobile washrooms for the convenience of the public. There will also be special garbage collection arrangements put in place to segregate the garbage and collect and dispose them. Public Health Inspectors too will be active to ensure that high hygiene standards are maintained in the food given to the public. All dansal will have to be registered with the KMC. Already 91 have registered with the KMC while another 100 have applied for the permission to serve food and drink to the devotees. The police have also put special security arrangements in place as well as special traffic plans so that the exposition can happen smoothly. There will be several ‘no parking’ areas with parking restricted around the Kandy town and surrounding areas. There will be several security checkpoints where there will be physical checks. The public have been requested not to bring any valuables with them and to carry only essential items.
The police expect around 200,000 devotees on each day of the exposition visit Kandy.
