Eddie the Eagle wins RTC Governor’s Cup 2025
Jayaratne Stables swept the board amidst great rivalry dished out by the Edwards Stables, as the former took home four trophies against one, including the RTC Governor’s Cup, when the 152nd edition was staged earlier this week. The prestigious and traditional Governor’s Cup was held on April 15 at the Nuwara Eliya Racecourse, with Edwards Collections Luxury Villas stepping forward as the main sponsor.
From the setoff, Eddie the Eagle, recent import from India owned by Gamini and Chamari Jayaratne and cleverly ridden by Indian jockey M.S. Deora and trained by S.V. Mathialagan, lifted the prestigious RTC Governor’s Cup 2025.
Cosmic Feeling, owned by Deepthika Jayakody, trained by S.D. Mahesh with jockey P.S. Kaviaraj up was placed second ahead of Pink Lotus, owned by Hasanga and Paba Jayaratne, riddedn by P. Sai Kumar and trained by S.V. Mathialagan.
Incidentally another traditional race, the RTC Queens Cup, a 2000m race, was won by another fresh import from India, Square The Circle, owned by Hasanga and Paba Jayaratne, with Indian jockey M.S. Deora guiding to a commanding victory under trainer S.V. Mathialagan
The first race for the HI Magazine Cup was won by Zulu Fantasy owned by Mr. and Mrs. Edwards, ridden by P.S. Kaviraj and trained by S.D. Mahesh. The second race for the Sporting Star Cup was won by Shaas Comrade, owned by Hasanga and Paba Jayaratne, ridden by Indian jockey P. Sai Kumar and trained by S.V. Mathialagan. Big Treasure, owned by Hasanga and Paba Jayaratne, ridden by Indian jockey P. Vikramr and trained by S.V. Mathialagan, claimed the Sporting Times Cup.
