Suspects of Dan Priyasad murder identified; 29 shooting incidents in connection with the case
View(s):Preliminary police investigations have revealed that a suspect based in Dubai has masterminded the murder of Dan Priyasad.
According to the police, three days prior to the murder Dan Priyasad had attacked a three-wheeler which he suspected was the vehicle hired and used for his brother’s murder in 2022.
Following the attack on the three-wheeler the angry three-wheeler driver had contacted a drug kingpin taking refuge in Dubai, identified under the alias of Kudu Dhanushka.
The three-wheeler driver had told Dhanushka that Dan Priyasad needed to be dealt with and handed over the contract to kill him. Dhanuska had accepted the contract and said that he would contact ‘Nana’ (believed to be Kanjipani Imran), adding that the three-wheeler driver would receive a call from Nana.
Then Nana had called the three-wheeler driver and assured him that he would carry out the murder but would require time. Nana had also asked the three-wheeler driver to assist which the latter had declined, police said.
As a police complaint had been lodged against Priyasad, the assassins had initially planned to kill him on his way back home from the police, but this did not work out as Priyasad had asked the police to give him another day to come to police.
Thereafter on Tuesday night they had shot Priyasad while he was at a relative’s birthday party at the Laksanda Sevana apartment complex. Two unidentified individuals had shot him and escaped on a motorcycle.
Police said that they have identified the suspect who shot Priyasad.
Colombo Magistrate’s Court has barred two individuals from leaving the country in connection with the murder of Priyasad, a father and a son reportedly involved in the murder.
Twenty nine shooting incidents connected to this case have occurred so far, causing deaths and injuries to victims.
In the latest incident, reported yesterday from Hinatiyana, two persons shot a man and fled in a motorcycle.
The 29-year-old victim who was injured due to the shooting has been admitted to the Minuwangoda Hospital, and later transferred to the Gampaha Hospital.
