Sri Lanka women stickers record AHF Cup win vs Uzbeks
Sri Lanka women’s hockey team finished their Women’s AHF Cup campaign on a winning note by defeating Uzbekistan 3-1 in a tense penalty shootout after both teams drew 3-3 in their final group match at the GBK Hockey Field in Indonesia yesterday.
The star of the match was Shehani Madaragoda, who was named Player of the Match for her outstanding performance. She not only scored one goal during regular time but also found the net in the crucial shootout. The other shootout goals for Sri Lanka came from Vimukthini Kaluarachchi and Samadara Kaburugamuwe, while Uzbekistan could manage only one goal through Olimova Noilakhon.
During the exciting 3-3 draw earlier, Shehani Madaragoda, skipper Nipuni Fernando, and Imesha Weerabahu scored one goal each for Sri Lanka to keep the islanders in the contest.
Meanwhile, in the Men’s AHF Cup, Sri Lanka ended their tournament by claiming seventh place after a thrilling 6-4 win over Thailand in their final match, also played at the GBK Hockey Field.
