Friday - Held a Press Conference and told Dharmasiri to tell them it was something "important". All of them came, thinking I was going to announce the abolition of the Presidency. Ah, how optimistic they are! Told them some details about how the UNP engaged in privatisation. Of course, there were one or two chaps trying to be smart, asking about the TNL issue and I gave them a piece of my mind too. And, some of them are even accusing me of trying to divide the Maha Sangha! As if I asked them to resign. Don't they know that in Sri Lanka, no one never ever resigns...
Saturday - So Srimani is creating trouble once again, not contesting the elections. Always likes to be a spoil sport. I should have known that at the beginning and made her the Deputy Minister of Women's Affairs or something, Lalith or Gamini I could have dealt with but with this one, everything is so difficult. I thought she would be grateful after appointing that Commission to probe Lalith's death. Well, they say hell hath no fury...
Sunday - Attended this meeting at Veyangoda promised the people that there will be no thuggery at the local government elections. When I said that, I think I saw Reggie, who was on stage, blushing and trying to hide a smile. Anyway, I want a clear election, if only because I want to know how we are doing after two-and-a-half years. Must tell the Reggies and Jeyarajs in our camp about that...
Monday - Dulanjalee is criticising me for implicating her father in Vijaya's killing. All I can say is that I'm not the one saying so; the Commissioners are saying so. Remember, young lady, what JR said when we protested about stripping Amma's civic rights. Yes, he also said, "look, I'm, not doing this. It's the Commission which is doing it!". And, he finally even tried to get into everyone's good books by "pardoning" her! So, lady, that's the way these Commissions work and we learnt those tricks from no one but you!
Tuesday - Attended the National Day celebrations. Ratnasiri has organised the ceremonies at eight in the morning. Surely, after all these years, he must know that eight in the night would have been more to my liking! And that Sinhala speech that you-know-who had written was a nightmare - it had so many big' words in it that the people would have though it was Premadasa speaking...
Wednesday - Nawaz Sharif has won and Benazir has lost. And a landslide at that! I'm sure that Ranil must be dreaming of the day when the same thing happens here! But what they don't realise is that those elections were held only because the President wanted them held, and guess who is the President here?
