Battle over tanks

Two Main Battle Tanks (MBT) of the Sri Lanka Army have been rendered out of commission, at least temporarily, for reasons not due to enemy action.

The barrels of the main gun exploded when they were being fired on enemy targets. The reason ? Faulty ammunition.

They are now returning some of the stuff to the Asian manufacturer and asking them to replace it, and replace it without any delay !!

Secret plans

Sri Lanka’s intelligence services may go through a complete overhaul shortly.

Insiders says plans are afoot to create a central organisation utilising the resources and personnel of various agencies.

For obvious reasons, one cannot say more now. Not until it is formally set up.

New Op.

The ongoing “Operation Jaya Sikurui” notwithstanding security forces ‘have’ launched a major strike against the Tigers in Trincomalee.

Retaliating over the abduction of Muslims and last week’s killing of Parliamentarian M.E.H. Maharoof, boat loads of Navy men landed yesterday at Foul Point, Mutur and Kattaprichochan. Backed by ground troops they were searching for LTTE hideouts.

The MOD will break official silence soon to give the news of their successes.

Cat out

Who is the man in uniform who has hired brokers to look for a 75 acre plot of land anywhere near a river, stream or lake ?

One of those broker boys let the cat out of the bag.

He says the site is being sought for a house for the man to live when he retires. A few sites have already been inspected but the choice is yet to be made.

Whether the retirement mansion will have a heli pad is not clear. But provision has certainly been made for a swimming pool. Why not if one can swim in money.

The kind of money that can bring anything and even ward off enemies.

Trainers for Y8

The Sri Lanka Air Force’s (SLAF) only Chinese built Y 8 aircraft that went for refit has arrived. It is sitting at its base in Ratmalana clothed in canvas.

They say they are looking for trainers to train the trainees.

No choice has been made although the expensive flyers from Ukraine have taken wings.

While it waits, insiders say, there is a backlog of military traffic to the north.

Last Thursday there was only one shuttle from Ratmalana to Palaly, whispers one bird.
