Irene Skliva, Miss World '96 arrived in Sri Lanka last Sunday accompanied by her chaperone Miss. Ostrowska, on Air Lanka's early morning flight from London.
This is the third time in succession that a reigning Miss World visited in Sri Lanka at the invitation of Rotary Colombo East.
Miss World made her entrance wearing a midnight blue trouser suit and white trimmed inner boob top. Stepping out of her Mercedes - Benz car at the Lanka Oberoi she war hardly affected by the popping of the numerous camera flash bulbs all round her and the crush of media and admirers all waiting to get a first glimpse of the beauty from Greece.
Inside the Oberoi there were introductions to top Rotarians. She then lit the traditional 'Pana' and was then led on to a sofa in the upper 'Lounge' area where she was served with a refreshing Thambili drink, decorated with a purple orchid.
Confessing that she was very tired from her long trip which brought her from Greece to London to Colombo, she nevertheless looked through a copy of the Sunday Times Mirror Magazine, that was illustrated with her picture on the front cover. Then all too soon she was whisked away to her luxury suite at the Hotel Lanka Oberoi.
