Add it up and get it right for life

By Dilrukshi Handunnetti

Priyantha predicts fluctuating fortunes for Sri LAnkaPriyantha Lal Rathnayake claims he has always been influenced by the extraordinary, though never the occult. When circumstances compelled him to quit a comfortable job, undeterred, he embarked on a fresh career as a private English tutor. When his path became thorny, he began to study in earnest the cosmic forces that he thought adversely influenced his life.

The fascination with the occult sciences and supernatural forces has never diminished for many and Priyantha was no exception. He began to study the various aspects of cosmic influence on humans, with special attention to numerology- the science of numbers. Today, he has advanced to the level of giving predictions via Internet.

So far he has made predictions of the lives of many celebrities including Sanath Jayasuriya, Susanthika Jayasinghe, Champa Kalhari, Asanka Gurusinghe and others.

" When I was young and had no inclination towards the occult, I was told by astrologers that my palm had what is known as "Solomon's Ring" and that I was destined to become a numerologist. Though I initially discarded these predictions, at 30 years I could feel my life taking a different turn. I was being driven towards spiritualism. The understanding of cosmic power culminates on a spiritual plane," he explained.

A self taught practitioner, Priyantha asserts that each number and each configuration has different values which have a tremendous impact on a person's life. Each number also has different characters and those who happen to share the same number would have strange affinities and share some common traits as well. All incidents which happen during a day are numerologically connected, he claims. A study of these patterns could help avert many a disaster.

In his contention, every individual must try to understand the numerological forces beneficial to him. If this science is used properly, one could achieve examination success, make a good marriage, find suitable employment and even produce bright children! Similarly, if one is at war with the numbers, one can fall from grace.

"It is important to realise the importance of giving a child a name with a favourable numerological value, or else his entire life could be doomed. Sometimes, letters are added on or deleted to get the correct configuration. These numbers also have constellation signs and even colours."

According to numerological accounts, a person is influenced by two numbers. The Fadic Number is discovered by adding up all the numbers in a person's date of birth to a single digit, and The Secondary Number is exclusively the day on which one was born. (i.e.: 23 would mean 5 when added to a single digit) The Fadic Number purportedly indicates what a person was blessed with at birth while the Secondary Number indicates the personality.

Number 1 persons generally have a proud bearing, make lasting and faithful friends, possess leadership qualities with a keen interest in associating with intellectuals. They are equally driven by a desire for power.

In total contrast, Number 2 indicates a person with a weak personality, unstable and lacking in ambition though blessed with creative abundance.

Number 3 denotes a nonmaterialistic person. Very few eminent persons have this number and the majority hold government office.

The person with the Fadic Number of 4 would bear revolutionary ideas with a drive to change the world. These are the freedom fighters and those with lofty ideals. They, however, could be self-centred and tend to lose an entire life's possession in one grim moment. Ministers Anuruddha Ratwatte and Prof. G.L. Peiris and former Premier Wijayananda Dahanayake are 4s.

Number 5 individuals are business minded. A fortunate number, these persons are shrewd and extremely practical. President R. Premadasa was a Number 5.

The romantics who crave for love mainly are Number 6 people. Blessed with attractive personalities, they easily gain material success and are artistically inclined.

Of all the numbers, Number 7 is different. These attractive individuals would lead partially unhappy lives. It is necessary to suffer at some period in life, though incredible heights could be achieved subsequently. They are possessed of a philosophical approach to life. Sanath Jayasuriya and Susanthika Jayasinghe are both 7s.

80% of politicians are born under Number 8. They are courageous and fearless with a strong sense of priority and they hardly live to reap the benefits of their actions which naturally flow to others.

Unfortunately, they run the risk of meeting with accidental deaths and thereby failing to complete their missions. S.W.R.D. Bandaranaike, Mrs. Sirimavo Bandaranaike, Velupillai Prabhakaran and Lalith Athulathmudali are some examples.

Number 9 is numerologically identified as the war number. These people are initiators and spearhead great causes. They are driven by a genuine desire to achieve collective goals, but their lives in general are full of uphill struggles. President Chandrika Kumaratunga is a Number 9.

Priyantha predicts fluctuating fortunes for Sri Lanka in the next 50 years with civil war and people living in a volcanic atmosphere. The Sri Lankan horoscope is under the influence of Number 4 which is a spiritual number. This would make the country's leadership idealistic than practical, and material success is not denoted, he says.

Priyantha believes that turmoil would not completely cease, especially with the country going through a malefic period. Destruction of places of religious worship and economic importance is indicated. However, 1999 is construed a good year for achieving peace. Decisive political moves are indicated after June 1998, he says.

"Number 8 being good for Sri Lanka and inimical to Prabhakaran, we will emerge from the abyss of a malefic period while Prabhakaran will find next year difficult to survive."

So much could be achieved by individuals, groups and governments if numerological trends are beneficially used, asserts Priyantha who believes that this wonderful science is still inaccessible to the majority of people due to numerology books being available only in the English language. Priyantha Lal who runs his own bureau providing numerological guidance to people has so far written several books that are awaiting release.
