Vividly exotic colours, Moorish-style long robes for men worn with silk
sarongs, ethnic-looking skirts with cropped tops, crinolines and African
inspired glamour-wear were featured on the catwalk as elegant models showed
off Michael's vision.
Produced by Graham Hatch, Collection 2000 held at the Colombo Hilton
was sponsored by Fashion Fabrics and Raja Jewellers. Ramani Fernando handled
the hair and make-up while Janaki de Soysa of Flowers of Summer created
the bridal bouquets. The show was for the worthy cause of establishing
a spinal-cord injury rehabilitation unit for women at the Ragama Rehabilitation
Hospital.
Sri Lanka's popular dancing couple Anushan Perera and Charnez Perera proved
their mettle against stiff international competition when they won the
Open Latin American event in the recently concluded CADA National Dancesport
Championships '99. National champions over the past few years, Anushan
and Charnez have represented their country abroad and look set for future
success. Dancesport is already a discipline at the Asian Games and will
soon be an Olympic event. TheCeylon Amateur Dancesport Association, the
controlling body for the sport in Sri Lanka believes that with state support
and sponsorship, Lankan talent can bring honour to the country.
