The No-Confidence Motion against Energy Minister Udaya Gammanpila was defeated in Parliament a short while ago by a majority of 91 votes.
Only 61 MPs voted for the motion while 152 voted against it.
The motion, which was submitted by the Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB), was put to a vote this evening after a two-day debate held yesterday and today.
Aside from the SJB, MPs from the Tamil National Alliance (TNA), National People's Power (NPP) and the United National Party (UNP) voted in favour of the motion.
Several MPs who represent the All Ceylon Makkal Congress (ACMC) and SJB National List MP Diana Gamage, who had all supported the Government from the vote on the 20th Amendment onwards, voted against the motion.
