The Department of Prisons is to encourage “e-visit” notion for the families of inmates, Commissioner General of Prisons Mr. Thushara Upuldeniya said today.
Addressing a press conference at the Ministry of Justice Auditorium he explained the structural changes and future plans of the Prisons Department.
Making it simpler the families of the detainees are advised to visit the official website of the Department of Prisons so as to reserve a date for the purpose of paying a visit via online video platform if they are undergoing difficulties with regard to travelling, he said.
The Commissioner General said that according to a five-year plan, a scheme of development of the prison system in Sri Lanka is being initiated under nine major proposals, and the entire prison system has been denoted by utilizing new approaches in order to control activities such as threats to victims and witnesses and the use of mobile phones.
Additional Commissioner General of Prisons Mr. Chandana Ekanayake also addressed the press.
