UNP Leader Ranil Wickremesinghe today expressed concern over the possible arrest of Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) MP Harin Fernando over his remarks made about the 2019 Easter Sunday attacks.
Mr Wickremesinghe raised a point of order and said that Mr Fernando had only told something what his sister had been reportedly told by their father who was in hospital.
This was in reference to comment made by Mr Fernando that his father had reportedly said that he had heard there was a plan to attack the churches on Easter Sunday.
Mr Wickremesinghe pointed out that it was the Police who had failed to take action on the intelligence reports about the attack which they had even received on the day of the attack.
Mr Wickremesinghe pointed out that Presidential Commission of Inquiry had already looked into the remarks Mr Fernando had made.
He said that trying to get Mr Fernando arrested was an incident of intimidation.
Mr Wickremesinghe also expressed his concerns over the detention of Opposition MP Rishad Bathiudeen.
