Sri Lanka Muslim Congress (SLMC) Batticaloa District MP Mohamed Sali Naleem was assaulted today (8) by an individual near the Batticaloa Hospital, according to the Police.
Mr. Naleem had visited the hospital to see his brother , who had been attacked by the same person.
Police said it was a personal dispute.
The assaulted person has been arrested by the police and remanded in prison until February 13, police said.
The person arrested had claimed that he had been assaulted by Mr Naleem earlier.

Public Security Minister Ananda Wijepala told Parliament today that the suspect in the rape of a lady doctor at the Anuradhapura teaching hospital has been identified as an army deserter and he will be apprehended shortly.
