Bodies of 87 of those on sunk Iranian ship 

The bodies of 87 individuals have been recovered who were on board the Iranian vessel IRIS Dena, which sank after being attacked by the United States in seas off southern Sri Lanka.


Second Iranian vessel located in the EEZ close to Sri Lanka’s maritime boundary

According to Cabinet Spokesman Minister Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa, second Iranian vessel is also not currently within Sri Lanka’s territorial waters, but is located in the Exclusive Economic Zone close to Sri Lanka’s maritime boundary.


Technical fault caused power outage across the island

According to the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) power outage occurred in several areas across the island because of a technical fault in the electricity supply system between Anuradhapura and Vavuniya. 


Two Indian nationals arrested at BIA with over 3kg of Kush and Hashish

The Customs Narcotics Control Unit arrested two Indian nationals who attempted to smuggle a consignment of narcotics. Suspects aged 26 and 37 had possession of 1,525 grams of ‘Kush’ cannabis, with an estimated street value of Rs. 15,250,000, along with 182 grams of hashish valued at approximately Rs. 1,820,000; and 1,513 grams of ‘Kush’ cannabis, estimated to be worth Rs. 15,130,000.


Minister Nalinda to chair Cyclone Ditwah unpreparedness

The Minister of Health and Mass Media Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa has been appointed as the Chairman of the Parliament Committee to conduct a comprehensive study on the lack of preparedness to face Cyclone Ditwah last year.


Female attorney sentenced to 12 years in prison for preparing forged deeds

The Colombo High Court sentenced a female attorney to 12 years in prison as she was convicted of preparing forged deeds for a land in the Borella area.
