Previous government decisions omitted to divest eight State-Owned Enterprises 

Supreme Court has been informed by the Attorney General’s Department that previous government’s decision will not be followed to divest eight major State-Owned Enterprises (SOEs), including Sri Lanka Telecom, SriLankan Airlines, Sri Lanka Insurance Corporation, and Lanka Hospitals.

A Gazette notification has been released to import specific substitute varieties of rice by the government to address Samba and Keeri Samba rice shortages.

A significant decline in the number of foreign tourists who visited Sri Lanka in March 2026 has been reported by the Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority (SLTDA).


Chinese national arrested at BIA with Salacia reticulata 

Customs officers have apprehended a Chinese national at the departure terminal of Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) with Salacia reticulata (Kothala Himbutu), an indigenous plant to Sri Lanka that contains high medicinal value, worth Rs. 300,000.


Individuals arrested for hoarding fuel 

In Mollipothana area of Thambalagamuwa, two individuals have been arrested for hoarding a stock of fuel without a valid license.

 

Circular issued to manage state expenditure

To manage state expenditure within existing fiscal limits and approved government spending ceilings, a circular has been issued by the Ministry of Finance, Planning and Economic Development.
