Manusha Ranawaka of Senima Investing, a YouTuber, was arrested on Wednesday by the Fort Police and remanded following his unlawful entry into the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) office.
He had been summoned by the regulator for giving unsolicited stock market advice on his YouTube channel enticing viewers to be ‘millionaires’. The SEC had warned him nearly a year ago but he had persisted, according to officials. The next time the regulated contacted him, he had been quite rude and requested the SEC to do what they can and threatened to do as he pleased.
The commission had requested the SEC to summon him for questioning on May 4, but he had entered the premises on Wednesday saying that that is the only free time he has got. He was also charged with unauthorised video recording on the SEC premises, and willful obstruction of SEC staff. He was produced before the Magistrate on Thursday.
