A hartal campaign has been launched in Batticaloa demanding the removal of M.L.A.M. Hizbullah from the post of Governor of the Eastern Province.
Several shops have remained closed in the area due to this reason. However, loyalists and supporters of Mr. Hizbullah had continued business as usual.
Schools and public markets were also kept open inspite of the hartal campaign.
