Badminton: Sri Lanka Junior International Series 2025 sets off in Naiwala

The Sri Lanka Junior International Badminton Series 2025 commenced followed by a grand opening ceremony at the New Saniro Sports Complex in Naiwala, Gampaha on Tuesday (5).

The four-day international event, where leading badminton-playing nations are taking part, was declared open by the President of Sri Lanka Badminton (SLB), Roshan Gunawardena as the chief guest, with the presence of other distinguished guests.

Among others present at the opening ceremony were Dinesh Jayawardena, the Chairman of Tournament Committee Chairman, Buddhika de Silva, the Vice President of SLB, Ajith Wijesinghe, General Secretary of SLB, Jaliya Jayasekara, the Secretary of the Organising Committee and National Selector, Kamal Gamlath. The games followed soon after the opening ceremony.

The tournament features competitions across Under-19, Under-17, Under-15, and Under-13 age categories, with matches being held in Boys’ and Girls’ in Singles, Doubles, and Mixed Doubles. All games will be conducted in line with BWF’s official laws and regulations.

Beyond its international prestige, the event holds significant value for Sri Lanka’s own aspiring shuttlers, who will have the opportunity to face off against elite global talent and gain invaluable exposure to world-class competition.

McLarens Group, one of Sri Lanka’s most renowned and diversified conglomerates, are the principal sponsors of the Sri Lanka Junior International Badminton Series 2025, which will run through August 5 to 8 at the New Saniro Sports Complex in Naiwala, Gampaha.

This prestigious international tournament, hosted by Sri Lanka Badminton (SLB) and sanctioned by the Badminton World Federation (BWF) and Badminton Asia (BA), has attracted a large pool of talented young shuttlers from across the globe.

The four-day event will be supported by several of McLarens Group’s leading brands – Mobil, 3M, McFoil, GAC, and Dr.Fixit – reaffirming the Group’s dedication to elevating Sri Lankan sports to global standards.

The event will conclude on Friday (8) following the finals and a grand closing ceremony.
