Marians globe trotting
By. Marisa de Silva
One of Lanka's most popular bands 'Marians' are all set to take international audiences by storm as they plan to go on their latest overseas tour from August 14 - December 2.

They hope to cover USA, Canada, Italy and London, on this leg and end it with their tour of 'down under' next March.

On their tour they hope to play at quite a few dinner dances and a total of around 20 concerts in all.

Nalin Perera, leader of the Marians said how it's very encouraging to know that they have quite a good response from audiences overseas. Mr. Nuwan Samaranayake of Sri Lanka Art & Music is coordinating the tour from the US end and setting up most of the gigs, explained Nalin.

This will be a great opportunity for the Marians to introduce their repertoire of originals and local hits to the international arena, he added. "We hope to perform a wide range of songs from the time of Jothipala to the current day hits" says Nalin enthusiastically.

Having toured Dubai and Cypress too, early this year, Nalin claims that this year has been their most eventful year, tour wise. Having started off as a band way back on 1988, the Marians have released six albums over the past 15 years in the music industry. They hope to release yet another album next year whilst Nalin too, hopes to release his solo album early next year.

On their return the Marians would be, in addition to preparing for their next tour, compiling a mix of originals, new to local audiences. It will be a subtle blend of both local and western music and should catch on fast amongst the locals, Nalins says.

The Marians will be back home, in time to celebrate the Christmas Season whilst all their pre-recorded television programmes too will continue even in their absence, as normal. Nalin also wishes to add that he has made a successful recovery from his recent bout of ill health, contrary to various rumours in the air, and is raring to go on their tour.
