Await the Bed Lounge

Colombo city is filled with bar lounges, coffee shops and restaurants. So what makes the latest hot spot so hot?A blend of all three concepts called the Bed Lounge Bar and Restaurant, it will be opened this week, promising a relaxed yet trendy ambience.

The idea was conceptualized by the Managing Director, 26-year-old Shehan Sumanasekara who has been in the industry for five years. 'There are too many bars and too many restaurants around, so I felt the need to make a cross between the two and set up a place which will be a "one-stop shop" for the public.'

The interiors are what make the Bed Lounge Bar and Restaurant special and different. 'My idea is to make it look like a well done up living room where anyone will feel comfortable to walk in and just relax.'

However, the latest in colour schemes have been employed, pink and blue, which are the hottest and trendiest internationally.

'The lounge is 2,400 feet of a lot of colour and texture' describes Shehan. ' A lot of colour, a lot of lighting and a lot of drapes are used.' Interestingly, he notes how the mood and atmosphere is changed throughout the day with the lighting and music- from piped music at lunch hour to more rhythmic music at the coffee hour and then louder music as the night unravels.

The Bed is divided into three areas, the lounging area, dance area, and the fine-dining area.

A coffee bar will also be open for the 4-7pm after-work crowd who would love to rendezvous with some 'coffee and conversation'.

The cuisine on the menu is Italian and Chinese and is available from Sunday to Thursday. Live music, light entertainment and the dance floor will come alive on Friday and Saturday nights for those wanting more energized fun.

The doors of Bed Lounge will be unfastened on its opening night, at 9 p.m on May 26 at its premises - 151, Park Road, Colombo 5.

This launch party will feature in addition to the usual DJ music, eastern percussion drummers who will synchronize their rhythms with the live DJ music - another unusual concept that symbolizes a blend between eastern and western cultures.
