'Maldeniye
Simeon' back after 20 years
Experienced director D. B. Nihalsinghe's both locally
and internationally acclaimed film 'Maldeniye Simeon' will be released
on CEL circuit cinemas after 20 years of its release.
The film won Best Actress award at the New Delhi
International Film Festival and OCIC, Presidential and Sarasaviya
awards in 1987.
Produced by Vijaya Ramanayake for 'Tharanga' release,
'Maldeniye Simeon' comprised a skilled cast including Anoja Weerasinghe,
Ravindra Randeniya,Joe Abeywickrema, Sanath Gunathilake and Swarna
Mallawarachchi.
Anoja Weerasinghe won the Best Actress-Rajatha
Mayura (Golden Peacock) in India while winning the Best Actress
at all three local awards ceremonies on that year. At 1987 OCIC
Award D. B. Nihalsinghe won Best camera, Premasiri Khemadasa- Best
Music and Joe Abeywickrema for Best Actor. The film won the Presidential
Award for Best Make up and Best Film, Best Director, Best Actor,
Best Camera and Best Art Director at the Sarasaviya Awards.
The film which was originally released in May
1986 will be released for a limited engagement at Regal cinema Colombo,
Prince Galle and Anusha Maharagama from June 29 to July 6.
