Squirrel with kids

Out in the garden one fine day
I sat on a seat for a while to stay
The branch of a maara tree
Came a mother squirrel with kids three

Sporty mother made a leap
On to another while the kids peep
'Follow me' the mother cried
The kids only looked with eyes open wide.

Twice thrice she did alike
One little kid then made a slide
Broad and sharp they are smart

The others too did the same
That's how they learnt the game

The lion

O Lion the king of the forest,
I think you are the best.
Though you are fierce,
for me you are nice.

I see you in our flag,
like a king you look.
I like your yellow colour,
And your brave look.

I see you in the zoo,
with loving cubs around you.
In a cage you are,
of iron bars so strong.

I see you from afar,
I fear come near.
But I like to touch you,
As you are my dear.

You love your little cubs,
can't you love me too?
Let us be friends,
I love to play with you.

At the zoo

I went to the zoo with my parents. It was a Saturday. The zoo is situated at Dehiwala. First I went to see the min medura. There were very beautiful, different kinds of fish, like Gold Fish and Angels. There were a lot of fish in the min medura like shark, cat and dolphins.

From the min medura we went to the animals section and saw lions, tigers, bears, monkeys, crocodiles, children giving plantains to the chimpanzees and were playing and also watching elephants dancing.

Then we visited the cages of serpents like snakes, polongas and various kinds of snakes. The cobra was alarming to watch.

From there we went to see the birds. There were very beautiful and loving birds of different countries. I saw a very proud peacock.

Next we saw rabbits, cats, tortoises, horses, giraffes, zebras, donkeys and beautiful swans and lots of pandas. And we enjoyed that day very much.

Poem Of The Week

Late!

I woke up in the
morning,
And looked at the clock.
It was seven-forty-five,
I got an electric shock!

I ran downstairs,
And saw my mother.
She was packing lunch,
For me and my brother.

I begged my mother,
Said "I can't go to school,
Because getting very late,
Is against the rule!"

The prefects would keep me standing,
Like they do to slaves in Rome,
And with a whole lot of effort,
She let me stay at home!
