'Reminiscence of 'Gentleman Jim and Elvis’

A programme titled ‘Reminiscence of 'Gentleman Jim Reeves and rock n' roller Elvis Presley’ will be broadcast 'live' on August 20 (today) from 1.30 to 2.30 p.m. over the airwaves of the Commercial Service of the Sri Lanka Broadcasting Corporation.

Incidentally the late Jim Reeves' 82nd Birthday falls on August 20. He was born in 1924. His 42nd death anniversary was commemorated on 31st July 2006. The late king of rock & roll Elvis Presley was born in 1935 and his 71st Birthday commemorated last Wednesday. He passed away in 1976.

The programme will be presented by TV and Radio presenter Bevil Palihawadana in collaboration with the Jim Reeves and Elvis Presley Fan Club Of Sri Lanka. The President of the Club Jayaratne Perera will be interviewed on the programme. Listeners too could link up with the proceedings of the programme live 'on line' dialling 4510520/0114510520

Music fans around the world commemorate the Death Anniversary of Jim Reeves on July 31. Following is a specially tape recorded message sent to the local Jim Reeves Fan Club by John Rex Reeves, a nephew of the late Jim Reeves.

John Rex Reeves is a very talented singer having done nearly ten CDs, most of which contain songs sung by his uncle, Gentleman Jim. Some of them have reached even American charts.

His songs being played by all radio stations in Sri Lanka. John Rex has been performing in many countries, and he says, it's surprising to see how Jim Reeves fans still reacting to his songs.
