Sulanga goes to Korea

Benette Ratnayake's latest cinematic
direction 'Sulanga' (The Wind) was selected to be screened
in the competitive section of Pyongyang International
Film Festival.
The film festival which is organized by the Korean Democratic
Government is scheduled to be held from September 13
to 24.
Sulanga which was earlier screened
at the 39th Houston International Film Festival won
Silver Remi Award for the Best Feature film. Previously
the film was screened at a number of international film
festivals including the Indian IFF, Montreal IFF in
Canada, Dhaka IFF, Berlin-Pacific IFF, 2005 Montreal
IFF, 2005 Cairo IFF and Kerala IFF.
Sulanga is the second direction of
Benette Ratnayake who directed both the locally and
internationally awarded Aswesuma (The Compensation).
The film revolves around four women
from different social strata and a professor and it
shows how different people quest for love and happiness.
The main roles are played by Sanath
Gunathilake, Dilhani Ekanayake, Chandani Seneviratne,
Palitha Silva, Sriyani Amerasena, Roger Seneviratne,
Rangana Premaratne Sathya Erandathi Ratnayake and Udara
Ratnayake. B. Wishwanath is the cinematographer while
Lal Herendranath-art director, Ravindra Guruge- editor
and Ranjith Wickremasinghe is the art director.
