Trinity hang on for a draw

By Aubrey Kuruppu

The Sylvestarians did most of the running in their match against Trinity at the Asgiriya stadium, but a couple of missed chances and some sensible batting by the late order thwarted their bid for victory.

Enjoying a 73 lead overnight, the Sylvestarians lost wickets cheaply. Ravi Karunaratne, with a brisk 42 and Feshal with a solid half century saw their side to a respectable 178.

Joachim, reprieved twice early on, batted confidently thereafter to top score with 53. Pathirana made a quick-fire 22 but with his exit the game was closed up.

St. Sylvester’s 170 in 58.5 overs (R. Wickremaarachchi 61, Kasun Alwis 23, R. Karunaratne 17, N. Silva 24, S. Pathirana 6-72, R. Perera 4-52) and 178 in 52 overs (R. Wickremaarachchi 30, M. Feshal 50, R. Karunaratne 42, S. Pathirana 5-71 (match bag 11 for 143) R. Perera 2-42)

Trinity 97 in 41 overs (W. Munasinghe 16, R. Bandara 19, R. Karunaratne 4-44, C. Ranaweera 2-17) and 171-7 in 53 overs (W. Munasinghe 21, D. Joachim 53, S. Pathirana 22, R. Perera 39, R. Bandara 14 n.o., R. Karunaratne 2-66, R. Jayatissa 2-27)
