Data through power lines

The humble power lines in your home and office have just been elevated to a more important position than just carrying power – to that of a method of data communication.

Innovative Data Solutions (Pvt) Ltd is introducing the “Power Line Energizer” which is a devise that can energize your power lines by putting data into the power lines. This is the first time this product is introduced in the SAARC region and can be described as a gateway which combines Wireless and Power Line Communication technologies to create a hybrid communication structure with no new wires.

Jeremy Fernando Managing Director of Innovative Data Solutions (Pvt) Ltd, giving an example of how this technology works, said “The typical applications are Internet. In a house you get ADSL lines which you have in one place. If you want it in another place you have to get another cable drawn by a professional. But using this method you don’t have to do that. Using the normal power cables, they can access the Internet from another outlet, as power lines are running all over the house.”

Speaking of the benefits of this method, he said that the cost of installing new cables is eliminated. “Buying a Power Line Energizer is equivalent to buying a network,” said Fernando further saying that up to 15 connections can be supported on one energizer. The target market of this technology is the Small Office Home Office (SOHO) sector, Fernando said. (LP)
