UDA can’t sell land to people: MC

The Urban Development Authority has been selling public property in its care to individuals, Kandy Municipal Councillor Anura Gonawela charged at a meeting of the Council.

He said land is held by the UDA in the name of the public and it had no right to sell these lands to individuals.
He said the Kandy Municipal Council should take immediate action to protect the rights of the ratepayers of the town and also the rights of the public.

The meeting was presided over by the Acting Mayor I. Abdeen.
