Kinross Six Mile Sea Swim on March 18

For the past several decades the Kinross Swimming & Life Saving Club has been organizing the most grueling swim in Sri Lanka and perhaps in the whole Asia. And this year too the 42nd Open Six Mile Sea Swim will be conducted on March 18, from the Kinross Beach to Mt. Lavinia and back with the Bank of Ceylon as the Sponsor.

Originally the swim was from Wellawatte to Galle Face and was later changed to the present course. Organising the swim is no mean task what with having to provide regular check points along the stretch of sea.

Keeping the welfare of the swimmers in mind during this grueling sea swim the Club will be insuring each swimmer against any accidents.

In keeping with Kinross unparalleled recognition of swimming champs, past winners will be invited as distinguished guests this year to grace the occasion.

At the outset Colombo swimmers dominated the swim but now they are no match for the outstation lads, notably from Ambalangoda who are prodigies at long distance swimming.

It is only now and then that they are beaten like last year when a boy from Colombo took the coveted 1st place. Even in the girls section the lasses from Ambalangoda keep those from Colombo trailing behind.

This year more than seventy five swimmers will take the plunge and as a just reward the Club has decided to offer handsome cash prizes to the winners and the runners-up.
