Strict umpiring was needed in Kandy

A scintillating knock of 81 by Shameer Munas and another five wicket bag for skipper Sachith Pathirana were the highlights of the drawn 91st big match between Trinity and St. Anthony’s at the Asgiriya Stadium.

Openers Wasika Munasinghe and Dilan Gangoda led the way with a stand of 102, after which the Trinitians fell away and were bowled out for 237.

Medagoda sparkled briefly in the Antonian reply but it was Munas who played a grand innings of 81 to secure the lead for his side. His driving on both sides was powerful and well executed.

When the Antonians took a one run lead, there were some ugly incidents which did not reflect credit on two of Kandy’s leading institutions. Firmer umpiring could have prevented these incidents.

Trinity 237 in 78.3 overs (W. Munasinghe 66, D. Gangoda 44, R. Jaleel 30, A. Bulunawewa 27, S. Auwardt 15 n.o; K. Ekanayake 4 for 45, Selvyn Jamion 2 for 43) and 100 for 4 in 36 overs (D. Gangoda 28, S. Pathirana 22, A. Bulunawewa 22, R. Jaleel 19 n.o)
St. Anthony’s 238 for 8 dec in 70.4 overs (H. Medagoda 31, M. Perera 33, S. Munas 81; S. Pathirana 5 for 105)
