Schools rugby starts on April 21

After all the controversy the Singer Schools Rugby League is set to get under way on April 21. The tentative schedule for Group One sees reigning champions St. Peter’s take on Kingswood in the first round of matches. Meanwhile S.Thomas’ Mount Lavinia will play Ananda, Thurstan go up against Trinity, Isipatana lock horns with Wesley and St. Anthony’s Katugastota will host Royal.
Antonian Rugby Trust Fund member and Attorney-At-Law Murshid Maharoof told The Sunday Times: “Our case was taken up on the fifth on this month, But the Schools Rugby Association did not submit in writing the fact that we will not be demoted. Furthermore contrary to speculation the enjoining order we received was only to prevent us from being demoted to the ‘B’ Division. The schools association could have gone ahead and planned the fixtures for the season. The current position is that the case will be heard on April 27. However, fundamentally we have agreed to participate in the tournament as long as we are playing in the top division and not labeled as ‘cheats’. We sincerely hope the rules will be clearer this time.
