It's a blast!

Very often we hear of the many projects organised by the various Interact and Rotaract clubs for the development of the others in society. As the organizers of such events, Interact and Rotaractors hardly ever get the chance to present their capabilities. These hidden talents need to be explored and emphasized. But do these organizers ever get a chance to develop and improve their aesthetic abilities? The answer is "yes." The Rotaract Club of the University of Moratuwa has made an effort to address this issue with the event Friends In Action 2007 (FIA 2007).

This is an annual event of the Rotaract district 3220. Assigned to carry out the project, the Mora Rotaractors have gathered together to make this a memorable event for not only the above-mentioned group of individuals, but also for all those passionate arts people.

Friends In Action 2007 is a talent search exploring the depths of singing, instrumentals, dancing and drama within the ranks of Interactors and Rotaractors. The singing and dancing are further judged into the categories of solo, duet and group.

It is not going to be just another competition. This is a doorway opening to wonderful opportunities for the participants to discover, develop and highlight their talent in an aesthetic sense, display and build team spirit among them and develop their self-esteem and self confidence. There will undoubtedly be friendly rivalry among the competing ends. As salt enhances the taste of a curry, this is the ingredient that adds glamour and class to their performances. It promotes healthy competition which will bring about the best in everyone. At the end of the day, the ultimate expectation from this project is to give the Interactors and the Rotaractors an enjoyable time.

Several workshops have also been organized for the benefit of the participants. These interactive, educational and fun sessions will prepare them and aid them in their recital, boosting their confidence.

They will be conducted alongside the auditions held by distinguished personalities of the respective categories.

These group activities are also to give contestants a chance to get to know each other better, appreciate each other regardless of their difference while building a fellowship and friendship.

As the countdown closes in, the tireless weeks of hard work and dedication will unquestionably produce a superb display of young talent at the auditions on Saturday, the May 26 at the D.S. Senanayake College premises from which the best three performances of each category will qualify for the final round.

Those unsurpassed competitors will once again appear for the grand finale which will come alive at the Bishop's College Auditorium on Saturday, June 9 from 5 pm onwards.

Organizing an event of this scale was not a bed of roses, but with the aid and dedication of many individuals and organizations, the organizers promise that both the participants and the spectators of FIA 2007 are in for a blast.
