Bribery officials take charge of CEB files

Acting on charges made in the report of the Committee on Public Enterprises (COPE), Bribery Commission officials took into their custody several files from the Ceylon Electricity Board.

Last week Bribery Commission officials met CEB Chairman Udayasiri Kariyawasam at his office. Thereafter, he met the Chief Internal Auditor and the Government Auditor. Mr. Kariyawasan told The Sunday Times he instructed the CEB General Manager to provide the necessary files to the Bribery Commission officials.

“COPE had given a list pertaining to malpractices at the CEB, so I instructed the relevant officers to provide the necessary files to carry out the inquiries,” he said. It is learnt that following lengthy questioning of officials, files were requested from the Chief Internal Auditor and the Government Auditor.

It is also learnt that one of the files pertained to an illegal land deal at the Kerawalapitya power station. COPE has for several months summoned CEB Board members and top officials to investigate corruption charges in the CEB.
