Popular plays at Lionel Wendt

A festival of popular Sinhala theatrical plays, Henry Jayasena's 'Hunuwataye Kathawa' , R. R. Samarakoon's 'Kelani Palama' and Kakul Hathare Ilandariya' will go on the boards at Lionel Wendt theatre starting from November 16. The festival will kick off with 'Hunuwataye Kathawa' with its new cast on November 16 at 7 pm. Nalin Pradeep Uduwela will play Azdak, remarkable role played by Henry Jayasena while Ruwinee Manamperi replaces late Manel Jayasena who was famous for her role 'Grusha'. Others in the cast are Nimal Jayasinghe, Prasannajith Abeysuriya, Indika Ferdinando, Chamika Hathlawatte and Warnatunga Senanayake.

The original musical direction of veteran musician Shelton Premaratne will be handled by Nalin Alwis. The new production of R. R. Samarakoon's 'Kelani Palama' will be staged on November 17 at 7 pm and it is played by Nihal Fernando, Ramya Wanigasekera, Tilak Kumara Ratnayake, Geetha Kanthi Jayakody, Samson Gomes, Prasannajith Abeysuriya and Prasad Suriyarachchi.

Samarakoon's latest theatrical direction "Kakul Hathare Ilandariiya will be on November 18 and the main roles are played by Wijaya Nandasiri and Saman Hemaratne, Anusha Dissanayake and Ratnashila Perera. Senior lecturer Ariyarathna Kaluarachchi handles the choreography while stage setting is by lecturer Lionel Bentharage and the music has been composed by Shantha Peiries. Ravindra Ariyarathna and Asoka Zoysa are in charge of the stage management and sound operator is Chandana Nishantha Peiries. The festival is presented by Jude Srimal.
