TIMIK electrical enclosures ready for export

Testing the equipment

TIMIK electrical enclosures and 19-inch racks manufactured by AP Lanka Pvt Ltd are on the verge of entering the export market for the first time in the local, light engineering industry.

The company has already received orders for electrical enclosures from the Middle East, India, Pakistan, Australia, and Canada. It will be introduced to the local market as well, said Chief Executive Officer of AP Lanka Pvt Ltd Ajith Indikadulla at a media conference held at its production facility in Panagoda, Homagama recently. “Studies undertaken in Sri Lanka revealed that the local light engineering industry compares well internationally for both its efficiency and competitiveness.

This is of significance as manufacturing operations in light engineering products are among the first to move to lower cost locations when labour costs increase,” he said adding that these electrical enclosures are used to make electrical switch boards, distribution boards motor control centres and other switch gear assemblies. It is designed and manufactured for international standards of UL50 (Underwriters laboratory) IEC 439 AND IEC 529 (International Electro technical Commission standards). These enclosures protect electrical and electronic components from moisture, chemicals and dust, which can damage the equipment permanently.

It is typically box-shaped and often has removable panels or doors to provide the easy access needed for maintenance and equipment modifications.

The temperature and humidity within an electrical enclosure may also be controlled.

The production of TIMIK electrical enclosures is being carried out at AP Lanka factory by a specially trained rural workforce numbering around 55.
