ASIRI genetic lab equipped for molecular genetics testing

ASIRI Hospitals said this week it has added another outstanding service to its portfolio of technological advancements- the Real Time quantitative PCR Machine (RT/PCR). The addition of this machine is an important step in expanding and enhancing the genetics services offered at the ASIRI Hospitals.

The Real Time quantitative PCR is the only one of its kind in Sri Lanka and enables detection and quantification of RNA molecules for the presence of abnormal RNA molecules such as those found in leukaemia and in serious infectious organisms like hepatitis B and C and HIV, the hospital company said.

“The RT/PCR AB1 HT7300 is one of the latest and most technologically accurate machines available worldwide and puts us on par with the best genetics screening laboratories in the world,” said Dr. Vajira Dissanayake, Consultant Clinical Geneticist.
