Best way to go

Tino Best has signed on to the lucrative breakaway Indian Cricket League (ICL) for a simple reason – to obtain security for himself and his family.

It is with a tinge of regret that the exuberant Barbadian fast bowler has accepted a deal that is likely to mean the end of his days of representing the West Indies, but the dollars and cents factor weighed heavily in his decision.

"It's a little sad, but I can't go to the supermarket and say that my name is Tino Best, I bowl at 90 miles an hour, I want $400 in groceries. People will ask me if I'm going mad. It is about securing myself and my family," he told ‘Weekendsport’ in an interview at the Stanford Cricket Ground.

"It was very tough [decision], but at the end of the day you have to live. I'm not a carpenter, a lawyer or a doctor. I'm a cricketer. I have to apply my trade to survive.

"If West Indies don't give me that opportunity and if a privately-owned firm has a league or a tournament and they invited me to play, obviously I'm going to go."
