Wonders of Hues in Kandy
Anybody can see anything, and appreciate as he or, she desires. Through an artistic eye it is seen in a different way, different angle and form. An artist sees inner ideas (how it forms…etc.). For example, a human figure, a tree, a house, a road or an object an artist sees like forms, colour patches and lines.
An exhibition of water colour paintings, 'WONDERS OF HUES' by the painter M. D. S. Gunathilake will be opened by Prof. Ashley Halpé, Emeritus Professor of English, University of Peradeniya, at 6.30 pm on Friday, February 22.
The 8th solo art exhibition by Mr. Gunathilake, is open to the public from February 23 to 29 from 9 am to 6 pm at Alliance Française de Kandy.
M. D. S. Gunathilake expresses his thoughts in forms of coloured patches, but they abstractly give an idea about what you really see. He uses a palette of limited number of colors.
He studied the College of Fine Arts, also has got through the art teachers examination. He followed the former water colour painter G.S. Fernando's work.
He has been the General Secretary of the Ceylon Society of Arts in 1995. He has won many first prizes and commendations for his paintings in several all Ceylon competitions He was an art instructor for more than thirty years in Government Schools. Now as a retired teacher he is conducting art classes at his place for art students and as well as for art teachers.
