Wilfred writes his autobiography
Forty years of vast experience by renowned teacher and editor, Wilfred Perera will be released as an autobiography, 'Visammuti Sammutiya' (Assent over Dissent) at St. Benedict's College Hall, Kotahena at 3.00 pm on February 23.
The book launch will be chaired by Bro. Granville Perera, the Principal of St. Benedict's College and Prof. Carlo Fonseka will deliver the key note address. Veteran actor Ravindra Randeniya will make a speech on behalf of the past pupils.
Starting from 1952 at St. Benedict's College, Wilfred Perera has served as a teacher for 35 years and he has over 30 years experience as an editor.
Being attracted to Leftist politics, Wilfred joined Lanka Samasamaja Party in 1952 and worked as an assistant editor of its official publication, 'Samasamajay'. He became the editor in 1964 when, Nimal Horana left the party. However Wilfred who did not approve of some of the party's ideological changes, left the party in 1974 never to pursue politics.
After retiring from teaching in 1986, Wilfred edited 'Sadaranaya', a periodical published by the Centre for Society and Religion led by Rev. Fr. Tissa Balasuriya.
Later he edited 'Sanwada' published by the Christian Labour Movement.
Taking up writing, Wilfred Perera wrote a number of books including a 'Muthu Etaya'- a translation, 'Salalihiniya', 'Viyarana Huruwa', 'Samaja Sadaranaya Saha Adikaranaya' and a collection of poetry 'Abiyogaya'.
Wilfred Perera also has completed a novel, a collection of short stories and a collection of children's stories and children's songs and is waiting for sponsors.
