Blaring neon
By Namali Premawardhana

Neon Nite, organised by BK Productions an event planning company, will be a different night of partying. "We're using neon lights and ultra-violets," explains DJ Brian from BK Productions, "the whole party is going to be based on a futuristic theme because we wanted to do something different." The event, which will be held at Club Nuovo, Taj Samudra on June 17, will feature the clubs in-house DJ Mash who is known for his hard, addictive blend of hip-hop and electronic music together with BK Production's DJs – Brian and Kaz.

DJ Brian has been playing since he was very young, and has now made a name for himself on south-east Asian as well as international stages, as an aggressive freestyle DJ. Brian promises to play the best of commercial house and chillout trance in order to make you party-goers out there "drop to your knees," on that night.

Even though DJ Kaz has learnt his skills from DJ Brian his specialty is Retro and Old School club hits.

A very special guest DJ for the evening will be a flower from our own land, Missy Flame, who is only the second female Sri Lankan DJ to play on the public stage in our country. Missy whose real name is Shanaki comes from a musical family and has always been very interested in music. She watched a DJ spinning a disc for the first time at a party she attended when she was 13 and immediately got hooked. "I didn't have the chance to seriously get into it back then because of my studies,” she says, "but then last year I met DJ Steven and he's been mentoring me since, and I guess I'm ready to play now!" Her first performance was just last week at Bootylicious held at the Club Bistro, and June 17 will be a night not to miss, because she promises to make it so. "It feels good!" she says enthusiastically, commenting on being the second Sri Lankan female DJ to hit the public eye, "I hope there are more women who are going to get into this, because it's really cool." Missy Flame's fame is her house, progressive and electro jams, which are bound to get you jumping. The four DJs put together guarantee a night of unique styles and variety to suit everyone.

BK Productions also has another string of special events planned, including an Old School Halloween party which is said to be held "at a creepy place," according to DJ Brian.

Tickets for Neon Nite will be available at the gate. The party starts at 8.00 pm and goes on until the crack of dawn, blaring Neon. So be there.
