Following the release of their debut album 'Bisura; Realm of Higher Listening,' local fusion band Thriloka returns to the stage once again, with an 'Almost Acoustic' attitude coupled with their traditional experimental musical outlook.
Featuring new compositions, re-workings of old 'Bisura' favourites, and even a few 'spiced-up' covers 'Thriloka,' meaning 'three worlds,' remains committed to multicultural music-making, within a uniquely Sri Lankan context.
With all its band members (oriental percussionist Pabalu Wijegoonawardane, jazz/ classical pianist Eshantha Peiris, ragadari/ rock guitarist Sarani Perera, jazz/ progressive drummer Harshan Gallage, and electric bassist Uvindu Perera), actively contributing to the catalogue of original compositions and arrangements, this melting of musical cultures is in many ways representative of the band's vision for globalization and cultural assimilation in contemporary society.
In addition to their constant quest to fuse the best of all worlds, Thriloka's ideology of 'returning to the roots of tomorrow' is given a further boost in which the grand-piano and box-guitar are given the opportunity to exploit their full acoustic potential.
Thriloka - Almost Acoustic (presented by the Fusion Dhyan Arts Circle) hits the stage of the Russian Cultural Center Hall, Independence Avenue, Colombo 7, on Friday July 18 at 7pm. Tickets are priced at Rs. 300 and available at the venue. |
