The Mendis maker |
“I told the national cricket selectors to take a look at Ajantha Mendis prior to the Australian tour. They were not interested because the Army team was playing in Division ‘B’. I am sure he would have been successful. However on a latter date former Sri Lanka captain and now head of Sri Lanka Cricket Arjuna Ranatunga called and told me that had he been the captain of the Sri Lanka team, he would have taken Mendis to Australia, said” Major General VR Silva who is largely responsible for converting this spin sensation to what he is today. |

Cameras do not always tell the full story |
Ajantha Mendis has wasted no time in showing just how exciting a prospect he is for Sri Lanka. In the first Test he played a supporting role to Murali, but in the first innings here in Galle he bowled so well that he became our main strike bowler. The others played good supporting roles, but he was a threat throughout. He may have made a few mistakes but that is often the case when you are an attacking bowler and a wicket-taker like he is. He has been outstanding. |

Visitors have still not read Ajantha in a proper manner |
There is always a sense of optimism in the dressing room when a team wins the first test in a three test series. And when that win comes in the form of an innings victory inside four days despite the loss of playing time for rain, it must mean that the second test should hold no terrors for the winners.
But, test cricket is always not that kind of game and India are not that kind of opponents. |
