Cinnamon Grand Colombo this week opened ‘Chutneys’, a South Indian restaurant, a 40-million rupee investment and the first such restaurant in a 5-start property. “We are proud to infuse the flavour, delicacy, and a touch of the very cultural essence of South India into Colombo,” Cinnamon Grand, General Manager Rohan Karr said in a press release.

Chutneys has sleek, bold interiors incorporating the vibrant colours of the South Indian landscape. Designed by architect Dipika Dharmadasa, the restaurant carries a muted but elegant black theme with splashes of hot pink, bronze orange and mustard giving the restaurant an ultra chic feel, the release said. According to Mr Karr, Chutneys offers the true essence of South Indian fare, known for its distinct characteristics and personality.

The a la carte menu spanning nearly 20 pages offers specialities from the four primary states of South India: Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Kerala and Tamil Nadu, with separate vegetarian and non vegetarian options for each state. In addition to varieties of dosai there are 45 vegetarian options and 55 non vegetarian options to indulge in. The restaurant situated at the lobby level and focal point of Chutneys is the ultra modern exhibition Dosai kitchen which turns out over 30 varieties of Dosai per minute, the release said.
