Sinhabahu in English goes on boards

Dr. Lakshmi de Silva's extremely creative English translation of Professor Sarachchandra's masterpiece, 'Sinhabahu' which captures the essential qualities of the Sinhala text is brought to the English-language theatre in a vibrant new production by Dharmajith Punarjeeva.

Dharmajith does not seek to present a mere reproduction of the original Sinhala production using the English text. He presents a creative new interpretation of Professor Sarachchandra's original characters and situations in an energetic and moving new form with new melodies and new movements.

The new production comes before the public in performances at the British School Auditorium at Elvitigala Mawatha, Colombo 8 on September 5 at 3.00 pm. and 6.00 pm. Also it will go on boards at the Hindu Cultural Hall, Peradeniya Rd. Kandy on September 12 at 10.00 am and 6.00 pm.

The drama is presented by the Mayashakthi Theatre Foundation directed by Dharmajith Punarjeeva and produced by Harsha Weerakoon.

The Lion is played by Buddhika Ranaweera, Sinhabahu by Saranga Abeysinghe, Suppa Devi by Anoma Janadari and Sinhaseevali by Thushari Dilhani with a chorus of eight performers and a supporting cast of seven.
