'Machan', Oscar nomincated Uberto Pasolini's Sri Lanka-Germany-Italy co-production which Premiered at the recenlty concluded ‘65th Venice Film Festival’ became the Best Film in the section 'Venice Day- 2008'.
The film was awarded with 'Label Europa Cinemas', Venice Days 2008 Prize winning the audience acclaim.
The film was scripted by Ms. Ruwanthi de Chickera and co-produced by Prasanna Vithanage.
Making the award, the Jury statement stated "Immigration is a very real issue in Europe today and this is an enjoyable, well written and well directed film that makes its point with humour and without lapsing into cheap sentimentality. We feel that this can attract and entertain a wide audience around Europe and contribute to discussions of this important subject."
The film, a comedy around a true story of a fake ‘Sri Lankan National Handball’ Team which disappeared in Germany in 2004 and said to have ended in Italy. Almost all the major roles of the film are played by Sri Lankan actors and it was shot mainly in Sri Lanka and few scenes in Germany.
Machan, an enlightening and entertaining film was played by Dharmapriya Dias, Gihan de Chickera, Namal Jayasinghe, Dharshan Dharmaraj, Sujeewa Priyalal, Mahendra Perera, Dayadewa Edirisinghe, Chathurika Peiries and others.
And it is to be screened from September 26 in the CEL circuit cinemas. |
