Schools, temples and temporary sheds will be put into use to carry out registration of thousands of residents from the north living in the Western Province, today, following a directive to register with the Police.
Police yesterday making use of loud speakers were keeping the public informed about the requirement to register today between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m. The directive would apply to those who have arrived from the north during the past five years. Senior DIG Nimal Mediwake who is in charge of Colombo and part of the Western Province told The Sunday Times that a large number of people from the North were migrating to Colombo and its suburbs due to intensified fighting in the North and that the LTTE could infiltrate easily in such a situation. |
