Northumbria University's principal representative in Sri Lanka, BMS, together with the UK Trade and Investment team at the British High Commission, held a formal ceremony at Trenchard House, in honour of the visiting Deputy Vice Chancellor, Professor Craig Mahoney, from the University. He was introduced to the Heads of Sri Lanka's premier professional education institutions.

Northumbria University provides degree pathways to local professional institutions which are either incorporated by an act of parliament or semi-government organisation. The event, at Trenchard House, the Deputy British High Commissioner's Residence, was well attended by all Heads of the main professional institutions in Sri Lanka.
During the ceremony Professor Craig Mahoney welcomed the role played by BMS in supporting the university by encouraging Sri Lankans to complete their degree programme at Northumbria University. The Vice Chancellor explained that "Northumbria University has a student population of 32,000 and is constantly improving its ranking as one of the foremost educational institutions in the UK."
Professor Mahoney stated that "Northumbria University which has been delivering education to students from all corners of the world was receptive to international students and their needs" adding that he was pleased with the potential Sri Lanka has to offer.

Meanwhile, the First Secretary and the Head of UK Trade and Investment team, Mr Peter Millman, expressing his views about Northumbria University said "The University, which is very internationally-minded, is focused on promoting higher education for overseas students. There is a big, and growing, demand for higher education in Sri Lanka and it's pleasing to see a British university addressing these needs. I commend the hard work of Northumbria University's local representative, BMS, in helping Northumbria to achieve their goals in Sri Lanka. UK Trade and investment will provide the best possible support to them."
The CEO of BMS Mr Sri Kandasamy who also addressed the gathering said that "BMS was focused on making UK education accessible to local students by providing tailor made learning solutions which are cost effective." He also said that "while BMS continues to establish itself as a Education UK specialist in Sri Lanka - the Northumbria University brand will continue to grow in the coming years. This is only the beginning!" |
