Gateway offers a variety of courses for students awaiting OL results through Gateway College, Gateway Centre for Information Technology and Gateway Language Centre. Courses are available from basic skills development to academic to professional and career enhancement. The courses have been designed to meet international standards enabling candidates to secure internationally accepted qualifications.
Gateway College stands out among the international schools in Sri Lanka as it follows the English National Curriculum from Foundation Stage up to Advanced Level. The experienced and qualified staff of the school is supported with State-of-the-art facilities and resources. Gateway College enjoys accredited teaching center status from Edexcel-UK, Cambridge International Examinations (CIE) and NCC Education-UK.
CONVERSION COURSE 2009
This programme of study is specially designed for students who have sat the Sri Lanka GCE O'level in December 2008. Students taking this course would make a head start to be ahead of the late starters and be better prepared to take courses of further study.
Students completing our Conversion course have the following options:
1. Join the June 2011 GCE London Advanced Level programme of study at Gateway College.
2. Join the Foundation Programme of the Gateway Graduate School that will gear you for the Degree level programmes of study.
During the Conversion course, the student will be coached for the London IGCSE May 2009 examination in Mathematics and the Intermediate & Upper Intermediate Level examinations of English Language conducted by NCC Education UK.
In addition, students intending to follow the Science stream will be afforded with the opportunity of doing practical work and coursework related to Biology, Physics and Chemistry. Students who are to pursue studies in the Commerce stream will do field work and coursework related to Economics, Business and Accounting.
A comprehensive computer training programme too is included in this phase to enable the student to qualify for the prestigious International Computer Driving Licence issued by the ECDL Foundation at the end of the course.
A short course on 'Study skills' that is included would also be useful for future higher studies
In the second phase, following the completion of the Conversion course, students will be coached for the London GCE AS June 2010 and A2 June 2011 examinations.
Students entering Year 12 GCE (Advanced Level) in June 2009 will have three options:
nOffer 4 GCE A Level subjects
nOffer 3 GCE A Level subjects and International Diploma in IT
nOffer 3 GCE A Level subjects and International Diploma in Business
The Diplomas mentioned above are equivalent to the first year of a British Degree.
The International Foundation Programme is available at the Gateway Graduate School for students who wish to join our Degree pathway after Sri Lankan or London GCE O'Levels. Having completed the Foundation Programme, students are able to join the first year of the Degree in 2010. The programme in addition to raising students' English level will also provide a firm grounding in Business and Computing along with other important skills. Gateway Centre for Information Technology offers programmes of study that range from provision of basic ICT skills to preparing students for careers in ICT.
IT Diploma Courses for Beginners
nDiploma in Computer Studies incorporating ICDL
For students who wish to develop IT skills for their future studies and day to day work.
nDiploma in Computer Science
Designed for students who wish to embark on a career in IT. Course contents include Basic concepts of IT, MS Windows, MS Office, Internet & Email, UML, VB.NET, SQL, ASP, Dreamweaver and Flash.
Diploma in Multimedia and Web Design
Designed for students to unleash their creativity by putting their artistic capabilities not just on paper but also on a digital canvas manipulating text, images, graphics, audio and video.
This programme provides training in Adobe Phtoshop, Macromedia Flash, 3D Studio Max, Adobe Premier, Macromedia Director, DHTML, JavaScript, XSL,XML,XHTML, Dreamweaver MX.
Other short IT Courses
These include e-Citizen, ICDL Advanced, Microsoft Professional courses and certificate courses in Multimedia, Hardware & Assembly and Computer Awareness.
OL and AL courses
Gateway CfIT also offers training for London/Cambridge IGCSE, OL and AL examinations. One Year and Two year courses are on offer for Sri Lanka OL Information Technology too.
Gateway Language Centre caters to a broad segment of the society by offering courses of English at various levels - Young Learners, Teenagers, School Leavers, Adults and Professionals.
The courses for Teenagers and School leavers are graded at 6 levels (Foundation, Pre-Intermediate, Intermediate, Upper Intermediate, Diploma and Advanced Diploma) according to one's knowledge and competence. The Diploma level is accepted for UK University entrance. Candidates can enter at a stage that suits them and progress through the series as they improve their language skills. The curriculum is designed by London Examinations (Edexcel) according to the Council of Europe Common European Framework. Students have the opportunity to sit for tests carried out by Pearson Language Assessments (formerly London Examinations or Edexcel) at the end of each of the 6 levels. These tests are referred to as the London Tests of English. Pearson is responsible for the setting of test papers and the marking of answer scripts. Successful students receive Certificates of Attainment from Pearson at the end of each level. These qualifications are internationally recognized.
Gateway also offers a 5 day training programme for school leavers in Accelerated Skills Acquisition Program (ASAP) that focuses on Career Development Skills or Soft skills. Gateway's Business English programmes are designed for adults and professionals
