Kalu’s Hide-away in the jungle

Kalu's Hide-away is an eco friendly modern luxury jungle retreat built in five acres of land. Kalu's Hideaway, completed in 2007, is the closest modern accommodation with all facilities for visitors to Uda Walawe National Park. Set in a remote dry-zone village, just 15 minutes away from the gates of the Uda Walawe National Park, this five-bed roomed hotel is best answer to watch not only elephants in the area but newly developed leopard trails.

Nestled in five acres of beautifully manicured garden surrounded by abundant shrubs and forest, neighboring the breathtaking Udawalawe reserviour is a private property owned by former Sri Lanka wicket keeper batsman Romesh Kaluwitharana.

The holiday bungalow consists of 5 spacious modern rooms with en-suit toilets. A relaxation lounge is equipped with periodicals, satellite TV for those who require diversion while on holiday in the jungle. The restaurant serves a blend of western and eastern cuisines together with an all day a la carte menu also offering BBQ at night.

Should you wish to enjoy the outdoor facilities on offer; take a nature walk, enjoy bird watching or should you wish to sweat it out biking or a game of volleyball. 'That would be the best idea before you jump into our open air swimming pool with Jacuzzi enjoying the best natural surroundings' said Kalu, who often visits the place to ensure the comfort of the guests, despite his work load in Colombo.

The holiday bungalow consists of five well appointed spacious modern rooms including the private upper deck suite with all amenities and en-suite toilets. The upper deck suite is an ideal platform for honeymoon couples or those who wish to have complete privacy.

The relaxation lounge, the centre entrance of the bungalow is equipped with periodicals, satellite TV and internet facilities for those who require diversion while on holiday in the Jungle.

The restaurant has a breathtaking view of the landscape and serves a blend of Western and Eastern cuisine together with an all day a la carte menu.

'Our main target market is Sri Lankan clientele.Though it is hot, Sri Lankan dishes at the restaurant, is the attraction among all' he said. Kalu's Hideaway organizes excursions on request to; Udawalawe National Park, Maduwanvala Walawwa, Wawulpane (caves with a curious bat population), Madunagala Hot water wells, Sinharaja National Forest Reserve and Yala National Park.

The staff at Kalu's hideaway will make guests stay a memorable experience making them feel relaxed, content, pampered with attention to detail, having tasted some of the best in Sri Lankan cuisine, enjoying the peace and serenity the bungalow offers - an experience that would make you want to visit Kalu's Hideaway once again.
